Getting started and onboarding
How setup works
The steps from a new account to your first return.
Last reviewed 25 October 2026After your first sign-in, Onzli guides you through setup. You can come back to it at any time from Settings by choosing Open guided setup.
The steps
- Country. Choose where your business operates. This decides which modules are available to you.
- Modules. Choose the modules you need. Choosing a module does not charge you: any subscription is a step of that module's own setup.
- Business. Enter your business name, your legal name if it is different, your tax identifier (your VAT number for the UK), and optionally your financial year end as month and day, for example
03-31. The currency is set for you. - Setup tasks. Each module lists what it needs, one task at a time. For UK VAT these include connecting your accounting software or choosing to import files, and connecting HMRC.
- Open your dashboard. When you are ready, finish setup. The dashboard shows each enabled module with the tasks still to do.
Skipping tasks
Some tasks can be skipped for now. Skipped tasks stay on your dashboard, and nothing is lost. If you plan to supply your figures as files, choose I will import files on the figures task instead of connecting software.
Who can do this
Setup is done by an administrator of the business. Other people who have been invited will see a message that an administrator is still setting the business up, and they get access when setup is finished.
