Discover and confirm VAT accounts

How Onzli finds the accounts that appear to hold VAT, and why you are asked to confirm them.

Last reviewed 25 October 2026

Onzli never guesses from account names. Instead it looks at how your own tax templates and invoices use accounts, and proposes the ones that appear to hold VAT.

What you see

Under the VAT setup step, you will see:

  • A checklist of what is done: Connected, Company chosen, VAT setup checked, VAT accounts confirmed, VAT accounting answered and Ready to preview.
  • A status with a headline, and any blocking findings that need action before figures can be shown.
  • A list of accounts that appear to hold VAT, each with the evidence behind it (open Why to see it).

Confirm

Check each proposed account. If they are right, enter your authenticator code and choose Confirm these VAT accounts. Confirmation is recorded, so the setup does not have to be repeated.

If the VAT setup report changes later, for example because a tax template's rows changed, choose Check my VAT setup again.

Details for your accountant

Under Settings, Connections, the VAT setup report has a Details for your accountant link. It lists the tax templates found with their rows and decisions, the accounts used for period totals, when the setup was last checked, and the read-only permissions the connection uses. Your accountant can use it to verify the setup without access to ERPNext.
