Connecting accounting software

Connect ERPNext

Connect a read-only ERPNext account so Onzli can read your figures.

Last reviewed 26 October 2026

Onzli reads your invoices and ledger from ERPNext through an API key you create. The connection is read-only: Onzli never creates, changes or deletes anything in ERPNext.

You do this under Settings, Connections, Accounting software, by choosing Set up connection (or Change connection). It is a three-step wizard: Connect, Company, VAT setup. You will need an authenticator code to save changes.

Before you start: create a read-only key in ERPNext

  1. In ERPNext, create a new user just for Onzli, for example "VAT reader".
  2. Give it a role that can only read: Company, Account, Sales Invoice, Purchase Invoice, GL Entry, and the sales, purchase and item tax templates. It never needs to create, change or delete.
  3. Open that user, go to Settings > API Access, and choose Generate Keys.
  4. Copy the API key and the API secret. ERPNext shows the secret only once.

Never send these keys by email or chat. Onzli stores them encrypted and cannot show them to you again.

Step 1: Connect

Choose where your figures come from:

  • My ERPNext (read-only). Enter your ERPNext address, the API key and the API secret.
  • No connection: I will import files. See Import VAT figures from a file.
  • Sample data. Shown only where the service operator has switched it on. It uses example figures, not your accounts, for trying the service.

The address is the one you open ERPNext with in your browser, for example https://yourcompany.erpnext.com. Enter your authenticator code and choose Save and test the connection. Use Test again at any time.

When you change the connection later, you can leave the key and secret blank to keep the saved ones.

Other accounting software

Connects to Xero: see Connect Xero. Using different software? Import your VAT figures from a CSV file instead: see Import VAT figures from a file.
